The Hike for Spencer is held in memory of Spencer Nelson who died seven years ago in a tragic climbing accident on the Maroon Bells. Spencer was an elite athlete for the competition center and a Division 1 Alpine racer for the University of Colorado.
Since it’s inception seven years ago, the Hike for Spencer has raised over $250,000 for the Winter Park Ski Education Foundation which has been used to fund Competition Center Program fees and travel expenditures for youths who otherwise would not have been able to participate in the Winter Park Competition Center.
Our mission is to make sure that every child who has the desire to participate is given the opportunity. Our goal is to educate our community of the benefits of investing in our youth by helping them become successful individuals through participation in winter sports that emphasize integrity, tenacity, and sportsmanship.
So please join us on August 12 to celebrate Spencer’s life and help make dreams come true for as many kids as possible. Thank you again for all your support!
