About

Dear Friends,

The Hike for Spencer is held in memory of Spencer Nelson who died nine years ago in a tragic climbing accident on the Maroon Bells. Spencer was an elite athlete for the competition center and a Division 1 Alpine racer for the University of Colorado.

Since it’s inception eight years ago, the Hike for Spencer has raised over $350,000 for the Winter Park Ski Education Foundation which has been used to fund Competition Center Program fees and travel expenditures for youths who otherwise would not have been able to participate in the Winter Park Competition Center.

Our mission is to make sure that every child who has the desire to participate is given the opportunity. Our goal is to educate our community of the benefits of investing in our youth by helping them become successful individuals through participation in winter sports that emphasize integrity, tenacity, and sportsmanship.

So please join us on August 10 to celebrate Spencer’s life and help make dreams come true for as many kids as possible. Thank you again for all your support!

Love,

Peggy, Peter, and Connor

Dear Peter, Peggy and Conner, This event has certainly been a wonderful tribute to an outstanding son, and brother, Spencer! We will be thinking of you while we are touring Washington DC with 2 of our grandchildren. We wish you a very successful and memorable day and we are so honored to be able to help to continue his memory with a contribution to the Winter Park Education Foundation. This is such a worthy and important tradition and you should be SO proud of the “Hike for Spencer” that you have created!
    Chuck and Lynda
